The Governor of Plateau State,vHis Excellency, Governor Mutfwang bid farewell for the representatives of Plateau State at the 9th edition of the National Youth Games, taking place in Asaba, Delta State from 26th August to 8th September, 2024.
On behalf of the Plateau State Government, The Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Hon Musa Ibrahim Ashom, represented by the Director of Sports, Prof Ezra Gunen, bid the contingent farewell and wished them good luck while in Asaba.
Addressing the contingent on Tuesday morning at the Rwang Pam Stadium, the Director charged the Team to be good ambassadors of the State and mandate them to “go over, dominate and win medals and see what the Governor will do for them.” Prof Gunen highlighted the goodwill of the Government by providing kits and complete allowances for all the Athletes and Officials and urged them to reciprocate the gesture by bringing medals back home.
The contingent is made up of 192 athletes and officials, composed of 122 Athletes, 26 Coaches, 8 Sports Secretaries, logistics staff, State delegates and Security personnel.
Plateau State will compete in 25 Sports namely, Athletics Para-athletics, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Chess, Darts, Cycling, Football (male), Golf, Gymnastics, Tennis, Hockey (female), Table Tennis and Judo.
Others are, Karate, Kickboxing, Kungfu, Kokowa, Powerlifting, Scrabble, Squash, Taekwondo, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
With this year’s preparation being fine-tuned, it is expected that Team Plateau will surpass last year’s performance of 4gold, 3Silver and 8bronze, which earned the State 15th position on the medals Table.
The Team has since departed for Delta on the morning of Tuesday 26th August 2025.
