*Kwande Targets New Football Talents as Plateau Governor’s Cup Group Matches Continues In Jos South*
Chairman of the Plateau State Football Association (PFA), Hon. Dr. Prince Sulaiman Yahaya Kwande, says the 2026 Plateau Governor’s Cup will provide another major platform for discovering promising football talents across the state.
Prince Kwande spoke during the opening ceremony of the competition in Mikang Local Government Area, where he expressed optimism that coaches and scouts would identify players capable of progressing to higher levels of the game.
According to the PFA Chairman, previous grassroots football programmes in the state have already produced players who earned opportunities with established football structures.
“We are expecting fantastic performances. Coaches and scouts will be around to identify talented players,” Kwande said.
He disclosed that two players picked from this Governor’s Cup were part of the players that promoted Mighty Jets Feeders to the NNL after the Mighty Jets fc senior team was relegated and four players discovered during a previous programme were invited for further assessment, with one eventually selected and three others moving into the Plateau United feeder and Under-19 setups.
Dr Kwande said the PFA expects the Governor’s Cup to produce more success stories by giving young footballers from the grassroots an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities before coaches and talent scouts.
“We believe this edition will be a good one. We expect to discover more talented players and create opportunities for them to progress in their football careers,” he added.
The 2026 Plateau Governor’s Cup is expected to provide a competitive platform for players from local government areas across the state while strengthening grassroots football development and talent identification.
