*Hon. Silas Patrick Dung Looks Forward, Unveils Plans To Still Upgrade Sports Facilities, Expand Youth Programmes Amongst Others In Jos South*
The Chairman of Jos South Local Government Area, Hon. Silas Dung, has disclosed plans by his administration to upgrade sporting facilities and expand youth-focused sports and skills development programmes across the council area.
Hon. Dung made this known at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Plateau State Governor’s Cup in Mikang, where he outlined efforts aimed at creating more opportunities for young people to develop their sporting talents and acquire relevant skills.
According to the council chairman, his administration still has several programmes lined up for the year, including initiatives that will involve traditional leaders and communities.
“The government still has a lot it intends to do this year, particularly at the local government level. I can assure you that we are going to have a fantastic programme,” Dung said.
He explained that the council was assessing existing sporting arenas with a view to upgrading some of them into improved facilities capable of supporting sporting activities and other programmes.
“We have a couple of sporting arenas around. We are trying to see how we can upgrade them to facilities that can be used for sporting activities and other purposes,” he said.
Dung added that his administration was also considering seminars and skills-development programmes targeted at young people as part of its agenda before the expiration of its tenure.
The chairman stressed that while football remains a major attraction among young people, the council intends to broaden its intervention to accommodate other sports.
“Football, of course, is important, but we want to see how we can also support sports like volleyball and badminton,” he said.
He also disclosed that the council would explore partnerships around lawn tennis facilities as part of efforts to expose young people to a wider range of sporting activities.
Dung said the broader objective was to create platforms through which young people could participate in sports, discover and develop their talents, and acquire skills capable of contributing to their future development.
His remarks came as stakeholders gathered in Mikang for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Plateau State Governor’s Cup, a competition designed to promote grassroots football, talent discovery and greater sporting participation across the state’s local government areas.
