Two big upsets were recorded yesterday in the ongoing 2026 Plateau State Governor’s Cup as 2024 Champions and 2023 Runner’s Up, Jos North LG Football Team; and the team with the best record during the group stage, both offensive wise and defensive wise, Kanke LG team, didn’t come to the party yesterday as both teams were knocked out at the quarter finals by Shendam LG and Jos East LG respectively.
In the first quarter final, a Jos East LG football team that struggled to qualify from the group stage hit a hot form at the quarter final stage beating a highly rated Kanke LG football team who emerged as the best from the group stage having netted a whoping 9 goals and had the best defence, conceding only one goal in 3 matches.
Jos East defeated Kanke 2-1 to qualify to the semi final, the best performance for Jos East local government since this current PFA Board came on board in 2023.
Umar Shehu and Daniel Ajang got the goals for Jos East in the 26th and 70th minutes respectively.
Rotji Gorip got the consolatory goal for Kanke local government football team in the 89th minute.
In the second quarter final match played yesterday between 2024 Champions, Jos North LG and same year Runner’s Up, Shendam LG, lived up to expectations as an end to end encounter was at full display yesterday that included flying tackles, dribbles, goals and fantastic saves as Shendam LG beat Jos North LG 3-1.
