Plateau United Keeps Continental Dream Alive As It Strengthens Matchday Security, Trains Security Personnel, Supporters Against Violence
The management of Plateau United Football Club, Jos, have taken proactive steps in achieving theit continental target this season as they strengthen security during home matches by organising a specialised training programme for its security personnel and supporters’ club members.
The initiative is aimed at improving crowd management, preventing security breaches and ensuring a peaceful and safe atmosphere for players, match officials and spectators during Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixtures.
Speaking to SSI Media during the training, the Team Manager of Plateau United FC, *Myep Ghai Bulus, explained that the programme was part of management’s commitment to improving matchday safety through proper orientation and collaboration with relevant security authorities.
According to him, the training became necessary to equip security officers and supporters with the knowledge required to manage crowds effectively and prevent incidents capable of disrupting football matches.
“The purpose of the training is to enlighten our security personnel, particularly members of the supporters’ club, on how to manage situations during matches and avoid any breach of security,” Bulus explained.
He noted that the club’s management considered the training essential, particularly in strengthening cooperation between its security personnel, supporters and the security department of the NPFL.
Bulus further disclosed that the programme was designed as a **train-the-trainers initiative**, allowing participants to transfer the knowledge acquired to other members of the club’s security structure and supporters’ groups.
“This is a train-the-trainers programme. We are training them so that they can also train others. The idea is to ensure that the knowledge gained here is passed on to more people,” he stated.
The Team Manager also revealed that the club intends to institutionalise the exercise as an annual programme ahead of each football season.
He stressed that continuous security education would help promote discipline among supporters, improve coordination among security personnel and minimise the possibility of crowd disturbances during matches.
The initiative underscores Plateau United’s determination to create a safer, more organised and family-friendly matchday environment while strengthening its compliance with football security requirements.
