The excellent organisation and provision of standard facilities at the ongoing 2025 International University Sports Federation,FISU Trials in Jos, has been commended.
This commendation came from the Vice President of Nigeria University Games,NUGA, Dr Ajibua Michael Alayode, on the sidelines of the swimming events at the Lutheran Swimming pool in jos while speaking exclusively to www.ssimedia247.com.ng.
Dr Alayode, who is also the Director of Sports of Federal University of Technology,FUTA, Akure, Ondo State, said ‘the trials has been a success despite the games still ongoing, you can see the facilities used, the organisation and the serenity of the town itself. With this that Unijos has provided, I can assure you that they will organise the best NUGA Games come November”.
The NUGA VP, further reiterated his belief that with the ongoing work on the facilities in Unijos ‘the best athletes will be discovered with the best facilities for higher levels as the University Games are breeding grounds for international stages and that is the target of the NUGA Games.
On the FISU Trials, he maintained that the best athletes will be selected for the World University Games in Germany as good ones are already being spotted. ‘We are giving the country the best athletes, the reason we brought them to jos, we’ve identified some athletes in various sports that will represent Nigeria at the world Games. 98 Athletes will be selected to represent the country in 7 Sports. The selected athletes will thereafter be camped for about a month and trained by the best technical coaches for perfection before departing for the games in Germany’.
Dr Alayode, also said for athletes to get scholarships, their performance must be top notch to attract sponsors like its done in the other parts of the world.
He expressed his delight on the news that the Federal Government has assured them of adequate funding for a better outing in the World University Games.
Dr Alayode further applauded the athletes for showcasing a good spirit of sportsmanship and for making friends from other universities.
