Another new chapter of football on the Plateau was opened yesterday as tricyclists, for the first time agreed to use football to unite themselves and also dissuade that general believe that nothing good can come out of tricyclists popularly known as “Mai Keke napep”.
The Chairman of Tricycle Riders Union of Nigeria, Jos North LGA chapter, Comrade Dahiru Hassan told journalists: “The reason we want to organize this football competition is that we have good potential players in our organization who normally play football and we are using this to encourage them; and to also promote sanity and free association with all our co-unions. And also to let people understand that the faces people are using to look at the tricycle riders is not the way they are. They are discipline and well oriented people. This football tournament will proof that point to everybody. We are also looking forward to build a very strong team and bring peace amongst ourselves.”
This maiden edition of this tournament will be known as Unity Tricycle Football Tournament, Plateau State.
It would be recalled that the Tricycle Association (Keke Napep) Union all under the central working Committee, is made up of five(5) Unions including:
ACOMORAN
NARTO
NURTW
TRUN
NACTOMORAS.
Chairman, Plateau State Football Association, Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande posited: “We are happy to have these tricyclists coming over to partner with us, using football to promote peace amongst themselves and to also change the usual negative narratives about them. The main goal of this tournament is to promote peaceful co-existence among members of the various union and the wider society. We are excited to have 40 teams made up of Keke napep riders from different unions.”
