The Sports Community Gets A Boost And Expects A New Lease Of Life As PFA Chairman Declares His Intention To Return To The Green Chambers Of The National Assembly
It was all celebration in the camps of sports men and women and sports associations on the Plateau on Sunday, 12th April, 2026, the moment Hon(Dr) Prince Suleiman Yahaya Kwande finally accepted the call of the good people of Jos North and Bassa Local Government Areas as he finally declared his interest and intention to contest for seat of Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency with the believe that other sports on the Plateau will also experience the face-lift football has enjoyed on the Plateau since he became the PFA Chairman some 3 years ago.
Hon Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, who has in his short stay in office thus far as the PFA Chairman, has revived women’s football on the Plateau via the annual International Women’s Day mini football tournament and the women arm of the President Federation Cup, which has given birth to one of Plateau girls, Veronica Kefas, just been invited to the Women Under-17 National Team, the Flamingos.
In that vein as well, the Under-15 tournament organised by the PFA also saw 4 boys picked to represent Nigeria at the Nigeria Under-15 national team, the Future/Baby Eagles from the 17 invited.
Hon. Kwande, apart from remodeling the PFA Secretariat, encourages grassroots football by giving out training kits to clubs, organising coaching seminars for coaches, bringing back the ones dead Igbo league, Oduduwa Cup and introducing the Plateau State traditional rulers Cup which will kick-start very soon.
Apart from keeping the youths busy and put them away from social vices by organising series of grassroots competitions, he still keeps promoting the peace on the Plateau by organising the Plateau State Inter Security Agency Football Tournament to create more synergies amongst them.
Hon. Kwande also donates balls and trophies for grassroots football competitions organised by individuals or groups in the State that includes the CAN football tournament.
He also gives reference and honours to retired players by giving more than 50 of them award of Excellence, organising and sponsoring the Plateau State All Stars games in honour of late Justice Christopher and Yusuf Mangut, among others.
These and many more other Sports on the Plateau believe they will also enjoy the moment is eleted as the National House of Assembly member, Jos North and Bassa Local Government constituency.
It would be recalled that Hon Suleiman Yahaya Kwande had occupied the seat of the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, Chairman, Beach Soccer West Africa, played Handball,Basketball, did Judo, among other sports.
He’s also one time NFF Board Member from 2010 to 2022.
Hon. (Dr) Prince Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, who holds the traditional title of Tafidan Irigwe and Garkuwan Furaka, as a politician, as he returns back to the Green Chamber of the National Assembly will be remembered for the following:
In Jos North,it would be recalled of his efforts in promoting peace and providing basic amenities such as schools, clinics, police stations, security gadgets, empowerment programs, scholarships, and jobs, among others, during a particularly challenging period.
Bassa also remembers him as a stalwart who brought stability, order and progress to a previously tumultuous society. He has spent a lot of resources on infrastructural development and mediating among conflicting parties in the locality.
