The Chief Executive Officer of Sammy Sports International, Vice Chairman of Teqball in Plateau State, and the Team Manager of Mighty Jets Under-19 and Feeders’ Team, Jos, Mr. Adesoji Samuel Ayodeji, has proposed to introduce Teqball as a sporting activity during the NYSC Orientation Course in Plateau State.
Mr. Ayodeji made the request during a courtesy visit to the NYSC Plateau State Coordinator, Mr. Jonathan I. Yavala, at the NYSC Secretariat, Miango Road, Jos. He also emphasized the need for a sustained partnership between both organizations to enhance sports development among Corps Members.
Speaking further, he said Sammy Sports International’s ongoing engagement with Corps Members, he noted that the organization has consistently provided coaching opportunities, media exposure, and sponsorship for sporting activities within the NYSC camp.
Explaining the game, Mr. Ayodeji described Teqball as an innovative sport that combines elements of football and table tennis, requiring skill, precision, and agility. Widely embraced by professional soccer players for training and recreation, the sport has gained global recognition under its governing body, the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ), which organizes international tournaments.
He expressed confidence that a collaboration with NYSC could lead to the discovery of young talents, aligning with the Scheme’s mission of youth empowerment and skills development.
In response, NYSC Plateau State Coordinator, Mr. Jonathan I. Yavala, commended the initiative, affirming that NYSC is open to partnerships that add value to Corps Members’ lives.
He emphasized the importance of engaging Corps Members beyond the orientation camp, noting that the Scheme serves as a reservoir of untapped talents. He further stressed the need for continuity in such initiatives, highlighting that with proper mentorship, Corps Members could explore lucrative opportunities in the multi-billion-dollar sports industry.
The visit concluded with discussions on the next steps for implementing the Teqball initiative in the NYSC Plateau Orientation Camp.
