Plateau United FC of Jos began the 2024/2025 NPFL season with a win over the visiting Katsina United at the Jos Intl stadium.
Defender Olawale Doyeni scored from the spot in the 23rd min in what became the first goal of the season of the NPFL.
The defender stepped up to take the kick when new signing Vincent Temitope was brought down by a Katsina Utd defender after he was roundly beaten.
The match then went on with many chances begging for conversation but to no avail till the end of the first half.
At the commencement of the 2nd half, the home team continued the search for the second goal which failed to come despite mounting pressure on the Katsina defence who equally had their goalkeeper Alladoum Kolimba,to thank.
Plateau utd winger Adamu Abubakar was a torn in the flesh of the visitors as he kept them busy at the back but was later stretched out due to an injury he sustained.
With the win Plateau United secures the maximum points as they travel to Ibadan for the MD2 against Shooting Stars.
Results from other centers indicates that there were 3 away wins in the matches involving Abia Warriors 0-2 Remo Stars at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Heartland 1-3 Enyimba in Owerri in Emmanuel Amunike’s first official outing as the Coach of the Owerri landlords.
Also, in Kwara, it was the visiting Niger Tornadoes that snatched victory with a 2-1 win.

The new season will definitely be an interesting one as the NPFL management has put in measures to raise the standard of the league as can be witnessed in the opening day matches.
