By way of ensuring the game of football reaches all nooks and crannies of Jos, footballers now have another platform to showcase their talents. The maiden edition of Plateau State Boys Brigade Patron’s Cup sponsored by The Rt. Hon. Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Naanlong Daniel Gapyil in collaboration with the Plateau State Football Association, PFA, witnessed a colourful opening ceremony and some exciting talents at display at the Boys Brigade Headquarters, Plateau State Specialist Hospital Roundabout, Jos, after which 28 goals were netted in match day one actions alone. Grand sponsor of the competition Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil, Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly who was duly represented by his Chief of Staff, Homsun Nicholas described the competition as “very important”.According to him: “this competition is very important and means so much to the Speaker being a lover of sports, to support young players in achieving their dreams, so for the Speaker he looks forward to having these kinds of opportunities to invest in the lives of youth particularly in the area of sports.”Rt. Hon. Daniel also commended the effort of the President of the Plateau State Boys Brigade who collaborated immensely with other football stakeholders in the State such as the PFA Chairman, Hon. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande in making this competition a reality. While answering questions from journalists as to whether this will be a one-off competition, The Rt. Hon. Daniel through his Chief of Staff said “this is just the beginning, for the Boys Brigade, it is the maiden edition, so the Speaker has undertaken to partner with not just the Boys Brigade but other youth Organizations to ensure that he impacts positively in the lives of young people in the State.”Bernard Asepo, SSI Media.
