The Plateau State Football Association (PFA) under the able leadership of Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande today held transparent draws for the 2024 Plateau state Governor’s Cup.
The draws witnessed the presence of stakeholders in the round leather game from within and outside Plateau State, marking the beginning of a process to usher in one of the oldest and prestigious tournament on the Plateau which is aimed at promoting unity in the state , discovering new talents amongst youths. It is also an honor to the donor of the trophy, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
The PFA Chairman Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande emphasized the significance of the Governor’s Cup, stating that it will feature all the 17 local governments of Plateau State.
The tournament is scheduled to kick-off on December 10, 2024, at Bassa Local Government, with the finals taking place in the Southern Zone.
Prof. Ezra Gunen, Director of Sports, Plateau State Sports Council, urged all local governments and youths to participate in the Governor’s Cup, highlighting it’s importance in sports development. He praised the governor’s commitment to excellence and the innovative approach brought by the PFA Chairman Suleiman Yahaya Kwande.
The Permanent Secretary, Plateau State Ministry of Youths and Sports, Alhaji Tamba Nuhu, encouraged Plateau youths to participate in the competition, citing examples of successful footballers like Ahmed Musa and Mikel Obi who began their careers at this level.
The event was well attended by local government chairmen of the Plateau State Amateur Football Association, the executive committee members and representative of FIFA. Other dignitaries present includes the Director of Technical, Plateau State Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mrs. Rekiya, and special assistants to the Executive Governor of Plateau State on Media amogst others.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of competition materials to various local government representatives.
