The Plateau State Cricket Association has set plan in motion to take the game of Cricket to nook and crannies of the three zones of the state, starting with Kanke Local Government Area.
This was stated by the Chairman,Mr Stephen Dayok Inusa at the board meeting held at the Samora Hotel, jos.
Mr Dayok explained that the move became necessary as the board intends to institutionalise the game in the state and to do this, it must begin from Secondary Schools which has the youth who will be interested in the game.
According to the chairman, the reason for taking off with Kanke is because the Local Government Administration has shown interest in hosting the board and coaches who will be resource persons to train these students.
In addition, the 1st Vice chairman, Mr Haruna Abba, stated that before the students will be trained, there will be a ‘Train the Trainers’ workshop that will comprise of all Games Master’s and Prefects from the schools in the zone, who will go back to begin to instruct the students before the State coaches arrival for a comprehensive training.
Also, Hon Raymond Deshi applauded the move and assured the board of his support as he has even spoken to the Kanke Local Government Chairman who gave him a positive response on sponsorship.
The Chairman, thereafter informed the board that the Director of Sports, Professor Ezra Gunen, has allocated a portion of a field at the Zaria Road Stadium for a cricket oval to be constructed. The board then appreciated the efforts of the Director of Sports with a promise to pay him a courtesy visit so as to thank him.
The Association also used the meeting to appeal to public spirited individuals and corporate organisations to help the association financially to move the game to a higher level in the state even as the Zonal qualifiers of the National Youth Games is around the corner.
Members also present at the meeting were the Representative of the National Cricket Federation, Aliyu Haruna, Coach Tisgir Naitat, Secretary Christopher James and the media Officer Nathaniel Mobolade.
