Nigeria 36 States FA Chairmen Rally Support For The Renewed Hope Unity Cup Applauding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
The 36 States Football Association Chairmen in Nigeria has pulled their weight behind the forthcoming Renewed Hope Unity Cup.
The Chairman of Kogi State Football Association, Hon. Hassan Idris Wada, who spoke on behalf of the States FA Chairmen in Nigeria, urges football stakeholders not to relent in contributing their own little quota in making it a huge success, but from our own part as custodians of football in each States of the Federation, we will solidly rally behind the Renewed Hope Unity Cup, 2026, describing the competition as a landmark initiative that will strengthen national unity and deepen grassroots football development across Nigeria.
In his words, Wada said “Football remains the country’s most powerful instrument for promoting cohesion, regardless of ethnic, religious or political differences.
“It is a wonderful initiative. We all understand the power of football,” Wada said. “Recently, the FIFA World Cup attracted an estimated five billion viewers across the globe, demonstrating the sport’s unparalleled ability to unite people.”
Referring to the excitement generated by the Super Falcons’ recent outing, he noted that football continues to dominate national conversations and remains the one sport capable of bringing Nigerians together.
“Just days back, the Super Falcons played, and till now, Nigerians everywhere are talking about their performance. Football remains one of the strongest unifying forces in our nation,” he stated.
The Kogi FA Chairman said organising the tournament in honour of the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was a fitting recognition of the administration’s support for sports, particularly football.
According to him, the appointment of a former football practitioner as Chairman of the National Sports Commission represents a historic milestone for Nigerian sports administration.
Wada also praised President Tinubu for recognising the achievements of Nigeria’s national teams, recalling the President’s reception of the Super Eagles after their second-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire and the celebration of the Super Falcons following their continental success.
“I am confident that this tournament will further encourage Mr. President to continue providing greater support for football and sports development across Nigeria,” he said.
Calling on Nigerians to embrace the values of unity through sport, Wada stressed that football transcends every social divide.
“Football knows no ethnicity, no religion, and no political affiliation. Football recognises only talent, teamwork and unity,” he said.
He concluded by congratulating the National Coordinator of the tournament, Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, the representative of the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, and other organisers, while pledging the full support of Kogi State, the North Central region and all State FA Chairmen towards the successful hosting of the competition.
The Renewed Hope Unity Cup is expected to serve as a nationwide grassroots football championship aimed at discovering young talents, promoting national integration and advancing football development across all levels of the game in Nigeria.
