The Minister of Sports, senator John Enoh has declared that the age limit for the National Youth Games be reverted to U- 17 in substituent Games.
The Minister made the declaration while declaring open the eighth National Youth Games open in Asaba today.
Enoh noted that reverting the age limit to U-17 will give room for more age group participation in the drive to breed athletes that will replace the aging ones at International meets.
It will be recalled that the National Youth Games was pegged to U- 17 age limit at initial stages.
Speaking further, the minster said the National Youth Games was conceived to serve as a tool to promote grassroots sports development and promote education and culture among the youth.
He disclosed that over six thousand athletes from all the states and Federal Capital Territory will compete in 36 sports.
He explained that the Games is a unique adventure of identifying young sports talents to be murtured to become the next set of world class athletes.
He commented the Delta state government for the excellent hosting sports activities at National and International levels.
In his address, Governor RT. Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori Delta state noted that the Games has produced notable athletes who have been representing Nigeria at International meets.
He said Delta state have been providing ample ground for sports to thrive in the country.
