*Jos South Chairman’s Cup Draws Receive High Praise as Tournament Returns After Years of Dormancy*
The Director of Finance and Supply, Jos South Local Government Area and member of the Plateau State Football Association (PFA), Mr. Larry Gowon, has described the return of the Chairman’s Cup as a landmark moment for football development in the southern zone.
Speaking at the draws ceremony of the 2026 Jos South Local Government Chairman’s Cup, Gowon noted that the competition marks a significant revival of organized grassroots football in the area after a prolonged break.
Mr. Gowon said the tournament represents “one of the greatest moments for us in the South,” stressing that the return of the Chairman’s Cup demonstrates renewed commitment to sports development and unity in the region.
He emphasized that the competition reflects the South’s continued leadership in football development and sporting excellence, noting that such initiatives contribute significantly to youth engagement and talent discovery.
According to him, the tournament will also serve as a platform for early preparation toward future Governor’s Cup and other major football competitions. He described it as a strategic step toward strengthening unity, identifying emerging talents, and promoting sportsmanship among young athletes.
On behalf of the organizing committee, he expressed appreciation to the Chairman, Mr. Patrick Dung, and members of the legislative council for their support in ensuring the successful commencement of the tournament.
He also extended gratitude to Chairman PFA and the entire association for honouring the invitation despite short notice, while commending coaches and team officials for their cooperation and commitment to the success of the competition.
In a related remark, the Chairman of the Jos South Football Association, Engr. PD Gyang, speaking on behalf of coaches, clubs, and stakeholders, commended the Jos South Local Government Chairman, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, and other officials for the revival of the Chairman’s Cup.
Engr. Gyang described the return of the competition as a major boost to grassroots football development and assured stakeholders that the tournament would be highly competitive, peaceful, and successful.
He further expressed confidence that the revived Chairman’s Cup would once again become a strong platform for discovering and nurturing football talent within Jos South and beyond.
