In a frantic effort to make sure that the Plateau State Governor’s Cup lives up to one of its reasons why it’s organised and played, the Plateau State Football Association has engaged from Plateau United and Mighty Jets fc Youth Teams, couple with other individual Scouts that have eagle eyes to fish out hidden talents.
Welcoming the coaches and Scouts and detailing thèm what is expected of them, the PFA Chairman, Hon(Dr) Prince Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, said “Apart from using this tournament to unite and promote the peace we are currently enjoying on the Plateau, we also deem it fit to make it serve as a platform for our grassroots players to be seen by Plateau United and Mighty Jets, and that’s the reason why we’ve invited the youth coaches of both sides and other Scouts to unearth the hidden talents in all the 17 local government areas in the State.”
All the youth Coaches of both Mighty Jets Feeders and Mghty Jets Under-19 Teams and Plateau United Under-19 and Under-17 Teams, praised the PFA for this lofty ideas brought to the fore which has never happened before. They all promised to be at their best and be professional.
On reason why the tag of this year’s Plateau State Governor’s Cup was changed from “The Time Is Now Soccer Fiesta ” and rechristened: “Barrister Caleb Mutfwang Solidarity Cup “, the PFA Chairman, Hon(Dr) Prince Suleiman Yahaya Kwande has this to say: “Before now, this year’s Governor’s Cup was tagged: “The Time Is Now Soccer Fiesta” but due to what is happening politically in the State, we felt that it should be called Solidarity Cup. That means, we in the football family and the youths on the Plateau are fully with his Excellency and in Solidarity with him, hence, we renamed it 2025 Barrister Caleb Mutfwang Solidarity Cup.”
He concludes: “Infact, we have no choice not to be with him considering the support he gives to all our football activities. He so much loves sports and the youths. So you see why we just thought it wise to rename this year’s Governor’s Cup as Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang Solidarity Cup. We are 100% with him.”
The opening ceremony, which will be played in Angware, the Headquarters of Jos East local government area of Plateau State, will be between Jos South LGA Football team and Riyom LGA football team, on Monday, 17th of November, 2025.
