The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has applauded the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria who conferred on him the esteemed award of SWAN Nigeria Order Of Sports(SNOS) for outstanding support for Sports Writers Association of Nigeria(SWAN) and his contribution to Sports development not only on the Plateau alone but in Nigeria as a whole.
The Sports loving Governor said this during the special reception and award presentation ceremony at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, to reward Plateau State athletes that returned home with an impressive haul of Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals from the 22nd National Sports Festival(Gateway Games 2025) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
In his words, after the award and certificate were handed over to him by the SWAN Chairman, Plateau State Chapter, Alfred Saiki, due to his inability to be there in Abuja because of more pressing official engagements, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang says: “Let me thank the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria for the award they’ve just given to me, and I want to assure you that we will continue to work together to promote Sports journalism. “
It would be recalled that Barrister Caleb Mutfwang alongside other Governors and great individuals that had contributed and still contributing to the growth of sports in Nigeria , were awarded by the National body of SWAN during her 60 years anniversary celebration in Abuja on the 31st of October, 2025.
Meanwhile, it was all smiles, cheers and celebrations by Plateau State athletes that did the State proud in the 22nd National Sports Festival(Gateway Games 2025) in Abeokuta, Ogun State; as they were gifted cash rewards of #1 million for each gold medalists, #750,000 for each silver medalists and #500,000 for bronze in individual events. For team sports, gold attracts #5 million, #3 million for silver medalist and #2 million for bronze.
Speaking during the special reception and award presentation ceremony at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, the Governor described the victorious athletes as “true ambassadors and shinning examples of Plateau’s resilience, excellence and winning spirit. “
“Our athletes have once again proved that Plateau State remains the home of champions. You have brought pride and glory to our dear State through your outstanding performances in gymnastics, athletics, taekwondo, weightlifting, and other sporting events. This is only the beginning of greater things to come.”
