Team Plateau continued her medal haul in the ongoing National Sports Festival tagged ‘Gateway Games’, as Patience Dalyop won Gold in 5000m and Nanlop Danladi, bronze in 10,000 Walk-race to shore up Team Plateau’s medal to 17 in all.
Earlier, at the Alake Sports centre, Team Plateau male Volleyball team came from a tie with stubborn Team Bayelsa to defeat them 3-2 in a game filled with grits and drained emotions to qualify to the quarter final in a match described as the final before final.
Also, Team Plateau got another win in the female Badminton Doubles with the duo of Mercy Macham and Abigail Terwase defeating their Niger State opponents 2-0, to advance to the quarter final but their male counterparts Numgji John & Adamu Emmanuel, were not lucky after initially defeating Team Kogi 2-0, to set up a game against Team Taraba in the round of 16, which they lost 2-1 in a nail-biting game that kept every spectator at the edge of their seats.
In what would complete the losses for the Team Plateau, the female Handball Team lost to Kogi 29-33, making it two losses in two matches, though the Coach Yusuf Abdulkadir girls showed promises of the better outing in the future.
It was the same fairy tale for the Male Basketball team, who lost to Team Rivers 58-63.
On Day 1 of the Gymnastic, Richard Adamu and Khalid Kabir Ibrahim competed on artistic floor, vault and pummel horse respectively and will be rounding it with Rings, parallel bars and high bars. They will be rounding off the men artistics event tomorrow to know if they are on the medal table or not, after compiling day 1 and day 2 results.
