If you recall that last week in the first leg of the AFCON qualifier match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Mediterranean Knights of Libya, it was alleged by the Libyan FA that their national team was mistreated when they arrived in Nigeria. The football federation of Nigeria later cleared the air that it was an avoidable mistake on the path of the Libya FA in arranging for their logistics.
Across social media, the Libya news outlet published stories claiming they will take revenge for what was a “Their mistake”. The Nigeria contingent were left stranded at the Libya airport for over 13 hours at the time of writing this report and still counting with little or nothing done by both the government of Libya and their football Fa.
Africa football and “voodoo-ism” was the order of the day before now but it can actually be said that apart from voodoo, inhumane hospitality has been added to that menu. Nigerians have taken to the social media to make their grievance known against Libya and Confederation of Africa, CAF.
Images made available on social media showed gross mistreatment and unprofessionalism of Libya.
Nigeria Football Federation has since then issued communique on how their effort to savage the situation for their team was thwarted.
This is not definitely what we often see in European football and this incident has brought up questions about, “will Africa ever get this beautiful game right?” Coupled with questions about if the match will still hold tomorrow, Tuesday.
