An inspired and motivated Plateau State athletes in the ongoing National Sports Festival in Ogun State, are leaving no stone unturned in making sure they reciprocate the gesture of the Executive Governor of Plateau State by fighting for every available medal At sight to improve the State’s position on the medals’ table which has made them to equal last edition gold medal haul of four.
At the close of events on day 5 of the ongoing National Sports Festival, Plateau increased the medal haul from 16 to 20.
Patience Dalyop deployed a deceptive strategy on her opponents, which perfectly worked for her to win Gold in the 5000M Athletics race. While Nanlop Danladi sealed the day’s athletics performance for Plateau with a bronze in the 10km Walkrace.
Elsewhere, in Golf, Tina Micah got a consolatory bronze medal after squaring up in the Match play singles, to add to the medals table.
Also, Peace Musa fought to secure bronze in the 45kg class in Powerlifting.
In Volleyball, it was a clash of the Titans between Plateau and Bayelsa, which actually proved the assertion that the match could be the finals before the finals, considering the quality of both sides. The two heavy weights kept Spectator to the edge of their sits in a tense soaked encounter.
Plateau came from behind twice to level scores after the 4th set before unleashing the final stroke to win the tie. She will have to wait for tomorrow’s matches to know her next opponent in the quarter finals.
Handball women lost 29 – 32 to Kogi. They now have no hope of progressing after losing two matches.
In Hockey, the journey has ended for the male team after losing 4 straight matches, as the female team will seek to consolidate on her last win when she lays siege on Nasarawa on Saturday and a win could see them through to the quarter finals.
Progress is being made in Chess, Scrabble and Darts. The picture will be clearer in the coming days.
Other results showed Plateau has incurred losses in some and won a few, in individual contests in Boxing, Badminton and Squash, while the male Basketball was eliminated by Rivers in the quarter finals with a 63 – 59 score line even after leading up to the third quarter.
Events in Judo, Table Tennis and Para-athletics will unfold on Saturday.
So far Plateau State has won 20 medals in 5 Sports consisting of 4gold, 3Silver and 13bronze.

- DARTS to take place also at Baptist school by 9am
- HOCKEY Female Vs Nasarawa by 8am at Ijebu Ode
- VOLLEYBALL on Sunday after Saturday matches. Time to be decided.
- CHESS will continue at Remo Star Stadium by 10am
- SCRABBLE, 9am at Remo Star Stadium
- TABLE TENNIS at Alake Stadium by 1pm
