The power of Youth and football has been described as overwhelming and ingredients of community unification that has become an instrument of peace.
This were the words of the Executive Chairman of Jos East Local Government ,Hon Markus Usaini Nyam, while reacting to questions from ssimedia247.com.ng, at St John’s college, Jos, one of the venues of the 2024 Governors Cup preliminary matches.
Hon Nyam, who was on ground to cheer his team up against Bassa Local Government, said football is his immediate constituency in terms of youth friendliness.
“I’m a youth-friendly Chairman whose immediate constituency is sport, especially football because it is a key ingredient and unifying factor for every community. I know the importance of sport as I once led my Local Government to a Governor’s Cup”
The Former Transition Committee Chairman, was also the only TCC that successfully organised a Chairman’s Cup to conclusion within a month.
The Chairman further said he has taken it as a priority to associate with youths especially through football, an idea that has been his motivation and the reason he was at the St John’s venue to cheer his team to victory.
He maintained that Governor Caleb Mutfwang has been a perfect example for them on the youth friendliness and involvement, who was personally present during the final of the 2023 Governors Cup in Mangu despite the intense rain.
Hon Nyam thereafter promised to float a standing team for the Local Government that will always play friendly matches in and around the state and country at large.
” I intend to form a standing team that will be the Local Government team that will play friendly matches in the local area, state and the country at large, not to call players who are indigenes when there’s a competition”
The former Vice chairman, was also full of praises for the FA chairman, Hon Dr Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, for the great work he has done since emerging the FA Chairman ..from the resuscitation of grassroots competitions, to the Governor’s Cup and the just concluded Inter-security Agencies Football Tournament.
He, therefore, enjoined the Chairman to ensure players from the state make the National teams like it was those days.
“I’ll like to commend the FA board, led by Hon Dr Suleiman Kwande, for the wonderful job of stabilising football in the state and for the various competitions set up to promote the game”.
Hon Usaini Nyam, on what his plans are if his Local Government wins the cup, he unequivocally assured of a grand reception and a presentation of a bus that they’ll always use for movement.
He promised to always ensure he comes to cheer them up.
The match between Joe East and Bassa ended in goalless draw. Other results are:
