Nigeria’s women’s beach volleyball team has secured Africa’s sole ticket to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games after defeating Morocco 21–18, 21–10 in straight sets.
The historic qualification has been hailed as a major milestone for Nigerian volleyball and a testament to the growing collaboration between the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC).
NSC Director General, Bukola Olopade, congratulated NVBF President Musa Nimrod and the federation’s board, describing the achievement as the result of purposeful leadership and effective collaboration.
“Congratulations to the Nigeria Volleyball Federation and its entire board. This is what true federation leadership, working in genuine collaboration with the NSC, can achieve. This team has the potential to become a podium team at the Olympics.”
Olopade also commended the Nigeria Customs Service and Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for their strategic support to the team.
Nimrod described the qualification as a historic moment for Nigerian volleyball, expressing appreciation to the NSC, Nigeria Customs Service, athletes, coaches and supporters.
“We have secured the ticket, but our work has only begun. Our target now is to prepare this team to compete strongly in Los Angeles and make Nigeria proud. With the right preparation and sustained support, an Olympic podium finish is within our reach.”
