*Paul Edeh Hails Renewed Hope Unity Cup, Defines And Describes Nigeria’s Biggest Grassroots Football Initiative*
Chairman of the Benue State Football Association and Proprietor of Naija Ratels FC, Barrister Paul Edeh, has praised the Renewed Hope Unity Cup, describing it as a groundbreaking grassroots football competition capable of transforming talent development and strengthening national unity.
Speaking during the unveiling of the tournament’s official logo in Abuja, Edeh congratulated the National Coordinator of the initiative for conceiving what he described as a visionary national football project.
“I would like to begin by congratulating my dear brother, friend, and compatriot, the National Coordinator of this noble initiative, Hon Prince Suleiman Yahaya Kwande. This is a remarkable achievement, and he deserves commendation for bringing this vision to life,” he said.
According to the Benue FA Chairman, the Renewed Hope Unity Cup goes beyond existing football competitions by creating a truly nationwide grassroots structure.
“For me, this is more than just another football competition. It represents what is arguably the first truly national grassroots football tournament in Nigeria. While we have the President Federation Cup, this initiative goes even further because it is designed to begin from every ward across every state of the federation. That is a genuine grassroots approach to football development,” he stated.
Reflecting on the symbolism of the tournament logo, Edeh identified three key features that captured the vision of the competition.
He said the tournament’s slogan, “One. Goal. Nigeria.”, sends a powerful message of unity at a time when Nigerians must rise above political, ethnic, religious and regional differences.
“There could not be a more appropriate message for this moment in our nation’s history. This tournament is designed to bring Nigerians together under one banner through the beautiful game,” he noted.
Edeh also highlighted the smiling image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the logo, describing it as a symbol of optimism and confidence despite the country’s challenges.
“The message is clear: remain hopeful, remain calm, and believe that there is renewed hope for Nigeria,” he said.
He further described football as Nigeria’s greatest unifying force, noting that the excitement surrounding the Super Falcons’ recent performances demonstrated how the game continues to bring Nigerians together irrespective of differences.
“Whether our teams win or lose, we remain united in our passion for the game and in our shared national pride. Football continues to be one of Nigeria’s strongest instruments for national cohesion,” Edeh added.
The football administrator commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for partnering with the organisers and applauded the National Sports Commission (NSC) for championing the initiative.
He expressed optimism that the Renewed Hope Unity Cup would become a sustainable platform for discovering young football talents, promoting peaceful coexistence and strengthening football development across Nigeria.
The Renewed Hope Unity Cup is expected to feature grassroots teams from wards across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, providing a nationwide pathway for talent discovery while fostering unity, youth engagement and sporting excellence.
