With only 18 days to the commencement of the 27th edition of the Nigeria University Games, NUGA, former Director General of National Sports Commission, Dr. Alhassan Yakmut has lent his voice as it concerns University of Jos readiness to host the Games come November 5th to November 16th 2025.
The University of jos is ready facility-wise with logistics to host the 2025 Nigeria University Games,NUGA in November.
This assurance was given by the Head of Planning,NUGA Games, Dr Alhassan Yakmut at the newly constructed Police Out-post, Naraguta Hostel while responding to questions from www.ssimedia247.com.ng
Mallam Yakmut reiterated the readiness of the University in hosting a Games to be remembered by all with the level of high quality facilities being provided by the University.
The Former Chairman, National Sports Commission, who doubles as the the Head of Planning, Unijos, NUGA, maintained that the facilities will go beyond the NUGA Games as they will be maintained for future use especially that the state is hoping to bid for the 2027 National Sports Festival after Enugu State, invariably, the University in collaboration with the Plateau State Government will continue to ensure the perfect state of the facilities which will still serve as a memorial for participating students, those that will come later and Sports persons that will use the facilities.
The former Director of Sports in Plateau State, further gave the hint on other facilities to be used, and are termed options A, that they are those of sister agencies like the Zaria Road Stadium, Event centres on the state and Sports Council.
On the security of athletes and other people coming for the games, Mallam Yakmut, said the Security sub committee in their last report have done a tremendous job with security agencies already drafted in and met with the University security outfit and taken inventory of how all the venues will be monitored before, during and even after the games.
He said ‘the University is fully ready to host the NUGA Games with the facilities almost 80 per cent ready, security Outpost being commissioned, other facilities outside the University already on ground, so we are just waiting for the games to begin and I assure you that the games will be one of the best ever hosted by any University in Nigeria’.
The former international Volleyball ball player, gave kudos to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Tanko Ishaya, on his ingenuity of attracting sponsorship from Federal Institutions, Corporate bodies like BUA Group of companies and the the use of the National Sports Commission Multipurpose Hall. He maintained that as an indigene of the state he is so elated and declared ‘as an indigene of the state,I’m so happy seeing something like this happening in the state and the way the Vice Chancellor has attracted federal- might is very heart warming and this is a thing of joy and pride as a son of Plateau State, therefore, we’ll ensure the sustainability of these facilities beyond the games, even though the University is a Federal University, it is located in our state and we are proud that this is going on’.
‘These facilities will be available for inspection even as the state bids to host the 2027 National Sports Festival after Enugu State, something I would like to see during my life time as someone who has managed Sports in the country’.
Mallam Alhassan Yakmut, further gave kudos to the Plateau State Governor,H.E Barr.Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for the excellent investment and support in the facilities.
‘The Governor has done immensely well supporting the University in the facilities and he has even promised to come for inspection very soon and this is to show that every hand is on deck’.
The NUGA Games in Jos is the 27th edition. This edition is scheduled to take place from November 5th to 16th, 2025, at the University of Jos. The event is expected to feature various sports, including track and field, football, basketball, and more, with top university athletes from across Nigeria competing for glory.
