As the closing ceremony of the 9th Edition of the National Youth Games is fixed for tomorrow, 6th of September, 2025, Plateau State athletes will be going all out today in making sure they add to their medals haul thus far.
Team Plateau as at Day 7 of the 9th Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, still has 19 medals in 9 sports consisting of 3 Gold medals, 6 Silver medals and 10 Bronze medals.
On day 7 of the games, Plateau was unsuccessful across seven sports, in its hunt to add to the state’s medals tally
In Cycling, Rejoice Danjuma narrowly missed out on a medal in the Elimination event, after leading the pack all the way, only to give up the lead at the final lap, finishing 4th at the end of the race.
Else where, Gabriel Monday finished 4th in F44 (discuss) in Para Athletics with 24.10m throw
In racket games, the Badminton team was eliminated in the quarter finals of the mixed doubles by Ogun. Similarly, in the Tennis mixed doubles, Plateau won the first set and lost the last two to Ogun in the quarter finals. Lastly, Squash was eliminated in the team events.
The Doubles event in Scrabble started yesterday with Plateau State defeating Edo State in the first round, and posting a similar result against FCT in the second round, before losing to Delta and Lagos states in rounds three and four.
Lastly, the female team in Chess won one match, drew one, and lost in the 5, 6, and 7 rounds while the male won two and lost one game.
The total number of medals won still remains 19 in 9 sports, consisting of 3 Gold, 6 Silver and 10 Bronze
As the Games draws closer to its conclusion, the following events are lined up for today, Friday 5th
1. Wrestling: By 8 am at the multi-purpose hall
2. Kickboxing: By 8 am
3. Chess:By 8am, the final two rounds and blitz event to hold
4. Scrabble: By 8am.
