Team Plateau has claimed its first medal at the ongoing Gateway Games Sports Festival in Ogun State, with Friday Yohanna winning bronze in the men’s 73kg Snatch category in weightlifting.
The podium finish not only marks a personal achievement for Yohanna but also puts Plateau State on the medal table for the first time in the ongoing NSF.
Also representing Plateau in the same category was Kefas Luka, who delivered a commendable performance but narrowly missed out on a medal, placing 4th overall.
The gold medal in the 73kg Snatch went to Ediding Joseph Umafia of Akwa Ibom, while Gabriel Idagu of Edo State claimed silver.
Both Yohanna and Luka are now preparing for the Clean and Jerk session, the next phase of the competition, where more medals are up for grabs and Team Plateau will be looking to add to its tally.
The Gateway Games Sports Festival continues with athletes from across Nigeria vying for honors in multiple sports disciplines.
