The 2024 National Sports Festival, tagged ‘Gateway Games’ has began for Team Plateau in Badminton female event on a low as the trio of Abigail T, Mercy Macham & Abigail A, all lost to Team Oyo’s trio of Oyedepo Oluwadamilola, Tiamiyu Salawat and Abiola Motunrayo respectively.
The event took place at the Alake Sports centre, Ibara Abeokuta, Ogun
Speaking exclusively to ssimedia247.com.ng, after the matches, Mercy Macham, regretted the losses but promised to do well in the doubles and mixed events.
Mercy maintained that though the loss was painful, it was not the end as there are still opportunities to be on the medals table.’after the loss, we were devastated but not losing hope of winning other matches as we have doubles and mixed events which we promised to do better and get to the medals table”.
On the motivation of athletes by the State, she said the state is doing the best they can but can be better.
Later in the day, the male Badminton team of Nungji John, Emmanuel Adamu, Isreal Nator and Jeff Adamu, will take to the courts to face yet to be known opponents.
Also, few minutes ago in the Hockey Male match, Team Plateau lost 0-1 to Team Niger in the highly contested match.
Handball female match comes up on Wednesday at the Alake Sports centre, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
