The Plateau State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the architect of ‘The Time is Now’ mantra, has donated an 18-seater Hummer bus to the Plateau State Sports Council for ease of transportation of athletes in and around the State.
Unveiling the bus at the Sports Council, the Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon MI Ashoms, appreciated the effort of the Governor for promising and fulfilling his promise.
Hon Ashoms, stated that ‘the Governor does not promise and fail to fulfil, as a government, we are concerned about the development of Sports here on the Plateau, we know what it has done for our people and what it can do; the benefits are enormous and as a government, we thought it wise to ease the movement of our athletes as they are preparing for the Sports Festival, which we know they will win laurels’.
The Commissioner also took time.to appreciate the management and staff of rhe Council for their commitment to the development of Sports in Plateau State. He said the vehicle is one out of so many to come as in the last 25years, nothing of such has been done, thus, describing the government of HE Barr Caleb Mutfwang’s administration as a trailblazer and pacesetter.
He thereafter, prayed that the vehicle “will take our athletes to victory, to where they will bring back glory to the state, take them to places where they’ll put the name of the state in high pedestal to the envy of other states”.
According to him, the era of Plateau athletes being stranded is over as the government will continue to synergize with the sport council to make their job easier, because when staff enjoy their work, there will be more results and commended the staff for their commitment, sacrifice, support and solidarity. As he also used the occasion, to appreciate Mr IK, a very supportive personality to the Sports Council in area of transportation, that God who sees their secret efforts will reward them all openly.
Earlier, while welcoming the Hon Commissioner, the Director of Sports, Prof Ezra Gunen, applauded the state Governor, Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
Prof Gunen, described the Governor as a man ‘that has Sports at heart’ to fulfil the ‘Time is Now’ mantra.That this type of gesture has never happened in the last 25years, thus, the bus will not only be used for athletes but for education too.
The Director of Sports, maintained that “one of the Cardinal programmes of the council is grassroots Sports development, and education,so as a beneficiary of school and education, we’ll want to use this vehicle for school Sports, because, it will be taken to schools for a sport of their choice to be developed and pick students to training and athletes to competitions, by so doing we’ll be discovering more talents from the grassroots to stardom”.
Thereafter, the official Unveiling and inauguration was done by the Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon MI Ashoms, we then handed over the vehicle to the council for use.
Also present at the unveiling were members of the Sports Council and Sports Writers led by its chairman, Mr Alfred Saiki.
